Don has been married for over 20 years to his wife Jeanne, with two children and one grandchild and one on the way. He lives and works in Walnut Creek, CA (San Francisco Bay Area).

He grew up in Salisbury, NC, 45 miles from Charlotte, and graduated from Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, NC, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1982. His Master's Degree is in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University, and he has practiced psychotherapy in the Bay Area since 1985.

With traditional psychotherapy training, Don combines his extensive study of traumatic stress and rapid-emotional relief (see Be Set Free Fast [BSFF] and EMDR) and individual and couples counseling in his therapy practice. He and his wife Jeanne are co-authors of four books: Raising a Son, Raising a Daughter, Raising a Teenager, and Raising a Family. Don is a trainer of the Be Set Free Fast self-help technique and producer of Be Set Free Fast! The DVD: Personal Instruction For Everyday Freedom.

Don is completing a fifth book on how to stop doing the thing that drives your partner crazy.
